What makes good joinery? There are obvious things that anyone would see: quality of finish, accuracy, tolerance, joints.

Less obvious things like longevity, moisture movement, joint integrity, warping, splitting, paint / stain life and fittings life to name but a few.

Clifton Joinery caters for the quality end of the construction industry where only the best will do - customers do not expect to see poor workmanship. There is nothing wrong with buying cheap joinery, but please do it with your eyes open: corners will be cut – you need to know where to draw the line to suit your needs. It’s generally held to be much cheaper to get it right first time!

Recently, we have noticed that some other companies are posting pictures on their website of products that were manufactured by Clifton Joinery and its parent company, David Salisbury Conservatories.

Remember, if you are looking for a conservatory and see a fantastic photograph, ask them about it! Where is it installed? Approximately how much did it cost? Can I see other photographs of the same project?

If the line goes quiet then something might be wrong.

Remember, if it seems too good to be true... then it probably is.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Although timber is a natural resource it is important to be environmentally aware. Just some examples of Clifton Joinery's environmental policy are our timber shavings and off cuts from our timber windows, doors, lantern roofs and conservatories are used to generate heat for our paint plant and factory, over spray from our automated spray plant is filtered and re-used and wherever possible we recycle product packaging and office paperwork.

Respect for the environment has pushed the timber coatings industry to respond with a range of initiatives and products. This, coupled with improved application of the finish and a more technical approach to the design of the joinery has resulted in significant improvements which improve the life and appearance of the finished product.

The extra cost of top specification glass is small compared to the overall cost of the timber window. We recommend toughened low “E" glass with a 16mm gap filled with argon as standard. Solar control glazing with warm-edge spacers is also available and this would save you more energy and therefore money over it's lifespan. Timber is inherently structurally stable, is available in a variety of finishes which can be changed if required. Minor damage or cosmetic blemishes can be easily repaired and timber is a renewable resource. In addition, some suppliers of uPVC products only manufacture the frames and purchase roofs from other companies. One of the most popular requests we receive is a for a price list. Unfortunately, we cannot provide one! Unlike some other companies, we do not give list prices for any of our joinery items. Using bespoke software developed and maintained in-house, our pricing is calculated on each individual component, whether it's a mullion for a timber window, rafter area of a lantern roof or complete conservatory. Our timber lantern roofs are made in the UK in our own state-of-the-art factory where we have over 25 years of experience in manufacturing top class bespoke joinery. Bespoke Timber Windows - When only the best will suffice.

We have been commissioned to manufacture timber windows in many highly prestigious properties over the years. These vary from refurbishments of old buildings to entirely new build projects. We are bespoke manufacturers, and therefore, the infinite variety of designs suits our abilities completely. However, it’s mostly for our attention to fine detail that we are chosen.

We are able to produce the narrow glazing beads that match the look and feel of an 18th century building whilst still retaining the 21st century draught proofing, security, and heat retention that modern double glazed units can provide.

We can manufacture curved head and gothic windows, single and double glazed versions and match old leaded type designs.
